This section is split into two parts:
A - Bass Drum Variations
B - Snare Drum Variations
Section 3: Part A
Section 3: Part B
Part A contains 35 bass drum variations incorporating thirty-second notes. The hi-hat and snare drum rhythm most commonly used in rock is notated with each bass drum variation.
Part B contains 21 snare drum variations incorporating thirty-second notes. An eighth note hi-hat pattern and a quarter note bass drum pulse are notated with each snare drum variation.
1) Make sure you are familiar with How to Use This Book, Bass Drum Variations and Hi-Hat and Snare Drum Variations as correct book usage relies upon an understanding of this material.
2) Play any or all examples from Part A as written.
3) Play any or all examples from Part B as written.
4) Join any 2 examples from Part A together to create 1 bar of standard * time.
Possible * time combinations in Part A = 1,225.
5) Join any 2 examples from Part B together to create 1 bar of standard * time.
Possible * time combinations in Part B = 441.
6) Create 1 bar of * time by joining one example from Part A, to one example from Section 1 (exs. 1 - 149) or vice versa.
Possible * time combinations = 10,430.
7) Create 1 bar of * time by joining one example from Part B, to one example from Section 2 (exs. 150 - 184) or vice versa.
Possible * time combinations = 1,470.
8) Substitute any or all bass drum rhythms from examples in Section 1 to any example in Part B of this section. Possible % time combinations = 3,129.
9) Substitute any or all bass drum rhythms from examples in Part A of this Section to any example in Section 2 (exs. 150 - 394).
Possible % time combinations = 8,575.
10) Substitute any 2 bass drum rhythms from examples in Section 1 and/or Part A (Section 3). to any 2 examples in Section 2 and/or Part B (Section 3).
Possible * time combinations = 355,014,016.
11) Experiment with different hi-hat rhythms with examples 430 - 450 in Part B of this section.
