The right hand is used to play the strings by plucking them with a pick. A pick is a piece of plastic shaped like a tear drop or triangle. Hold the pick lightly between your thumb and first finger and use the tip of the pick to play the string.
1. Index finger curved.
2. Pick placed on first joint of index finger with its point about 1⁄4 inch (6mm) past the finger-tip.
3. Thumb clamps down, holding the pick in place.
Incorrect: First finger not curved.
Incorrect: Pick incorrectly placed on second joint of index finger.
Picks are usually made of plastic and come in a variety of different shapes and thicknesses. You should experiment until you find one which you feel comfortable with. Use the tip of the pick to play the string.
