Matteo Carcassi (b. Florence 1792 - d. Paris 1853)

Matteo Carcassi (b. Florence 1792 - d. Paris 1853)

Carcassi, a brilliant virtuoso, arrived in Paris in 1820 where he soon displaced the aged Carulli as premier performer and composer for guitar.

Using Paris as a base, he made numerous trips to London where he was received enthusiastically by a guitar hungry audience.

His method (which is one of the most popular ever written) has assured his place in the guitars’ didactic literature, as have his many compositions, all of which are of great technical merit and musical charm.

Playing Notes: Concentrate on strength, evenness and smooth left hand changes in the second section - i.e., do not push hand away when using the 3rd finger in bar 8.
