The Triplet

The Triplet

A triplet is a group of three notes played in the same time as two notes of the same kind. E.g., an eighth note triplet consists of three eighth notes played in the same time as you would play two eighth notes. Eighth note triplets are indicated by three eighth notes grouped together by a curved line and the numeral 3, as shown. Triplets are easy to understand once you have heard them played. Staccato

A dot written above or below a note indicates that you play the note staccato . Staccato means short and detatched. To do this, lift your finger off the fretboard immediately after picking the note, but keep the finger lightly touching the string. To play an open string note staccato, lightly touch it with any finger of your left hand immediately after picking it.
