Progressive Keyboard Method For Young Beginners Books 1, 2 & 3 have been designed to introduce the younger student to the basics of playing the keyboard and reading music. To maximize the student’s enjoyment, the books use original material along with a repertoire of well known children’s songs. All have been carefully graded into an easy to follow, lesson by lesson format which assumes no prior knowledge of music. Since keyboard often provides accompaniment for other instruments, this book may be used in conjunction with other Progressive Young Beginner books, as many of the songs are common across the series.
Book 1 contains very easy arrangements involving five notes on the treble staff and five notes on the bass staff. The student also learns the concept of melody and accompaniment using the chords C and G7 with the left hand. The book includes an introduction to the 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures incorporating quarter, half and whole notes and their equivalent rests. Only the white keys are used.
The student is taught how to read music and is introduced to basic terms such as barlines, repeat signs and melody and harmony. New pieces of information are highlighted by color boxes while color illustrations are used throughout to stimulate and maintain the student’s interest.
Progressive Keyboard Method Supplementary Songbook A contains extra songs to provide a repertoire to go with all the notes, terms and techniques learned in Progressive Keyboard Method For Young Beginners Book 1. The pieces in the first part of the book are all duets, where the student plays the melody while a teacher’s part is also provided as an accompaniment. In the last third of the book, the student plays both the treble and bass parts. The songs in this book naturally follow the point in Progressive Keyboard Method For Young Beginners Book 1 where the student learns to play with both hands together.
Supplementary Songbook A contains an additional 23 songs which are cross-referenced to the lessons in Method Book 1.
