INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

Progressive Lead Guitar Licks features over 115 lead guitar licks incorporating the styles and techniques used by the world's best lead guitar players. The licks are set out in order of difficulty to assist lead guitar players of all levels.

It will be necessary to already have a basic knowledge of guitar before starting this book. (See Progressive Rock Guitar Method and Progressive Rock Guitar Technique by Brett Duncan).

The emphasis in this volume is to provide a vast variety of music styles to enable you to fit in with any music performing or recording situation. It is not necessary to work through every page before proceeding to the next, as it depends on what area you want to improve your skills.

The first four sections cover Rock, Blues, Heavy Metal and Country. At the end of each of these sections is a lead guitar solo, which fully shows how the licks and techniques throughout each section can be used to create a lead guitar solo. Extra licks are included in the final section covering other popular modern styles such as Jazz, Funk and Soul, Rockabilly, Slide and Fingerpicking.

It is also important that after a while you begin to play these licks with some variations of your own. Combine the study of these licks with constant playing and listening. All lead guitar players use the same basics, but development of style is determined by how these basics are used.

It is also recommended to work through this book in association with the accompanying cassette which will allow you to hear how the licks and solos should sound. You will also be able to practice along with backing tracks, giving you the opportunity to create your own solos.

Good luck and have fun, Brett Duncan
