As previously mentioned the open string notes for open A tuning are tuned two frets higher than the open string notes for open G tuning. This means that all chord shapes are identical in both tunings, only the name of each chord shape will differ. The following diagrams are some basic chords and bar chords in open A tuning. Compare these chord shapes to the open G tuning chord shapes earlier in this section.

1712 Overture is an interesting piece in open A tuning consisting of three different sections. At the end of the piece, return to the beginning (D.C.) and play to the end.
An Open and Shut Case is another solo in open A tuning. However remember that it is possible to play all open A tuning pieces using open G tuning instead.
