Swing and Shuffle Rhythms

By playing only the first and third notes of a triplet, swing eighth notes are created. The term "shuffle" means a constant stream of swing eighth notes.

The shuffle is one of the most common rhythms in Blues and is also used in related styles such as Gospel, Jazz, Soul and Rock. The following exercise is an example of a shuffle . It is in the key of E and features runs created from the E minor pentatonic scale. The symbol next to the exercise number indicates that all the eighth notes are swung.
