The Three Four Time Signature ( ^ )

The ^ time signature tells you there are three counts in each bar.

The Dotted Half Note

A dot placed after a half note means that you hold the note for three counts. One dotted half note makes one bar of music in ^ time.

Strum Pattern

Use this easy strum pattern for Girls and Boys Come Out to Play and the songs on the next two pages.

The Dotted Strum

A dot placed after a two count strum means that the strum lasts for three counts, which is one bar of music in ^ time.

Things to Remember

  • Support your right hand as you play the notes.
  • Count aloud as you strum, and change chords in time.
  • Keep your left hand fingers as close to the strings as possible.
  • Look at the music, not the guitar.
