Eighth note triplets are a group of three evenly spaced eighth notes played within one beat. Eighth note triplets are indicated by three eighth notes grouped together by a bracket or a curved line and the number 3 written either above or below the group, as pictured.
The eighth note triplets are played with a third of a beat each. Accent (play louder) the first note of each triplet group as it will help you keep time.
The following lick uses eighth note triplets and is two bars long. The word "lick" means a short phrase.
This Blues in A minor uses triplet timing throughout and is played at the 5th fret.
You can also play this Blues at the open position using the A, D and E strings. Let the open strings keep sounding ("droning") as you play the other notes in the riff. There is always more than one position you can play a riff.
