Creating Your Own Bass Line

Lesson 2/41 | Study Time: 5 Min
Course: Beginner Bass
Creating Your Own Bass Line

Creating Your Own Bass Line

In the previous lessons you have learned the techniques, notes and timing necessary to play bass. As a bass player, you will also be required to create your own bass lines to match a given chord progression or song.

There are several methods which can be used to create a bass line. These are:

  • Playing the root note.
  • Riff playing (based on scales).
  • Arpeggio playing (using notes of the chord).
  • Walking bass (based on arpeggios and passing notes or scale tones).
  • All of the above.

These methods are illustrated throughout this book.
