If you look at the positions of the root notes (key notes) in the scale pattern, you will notice that they form a triangular pattern. If you look at a basic E chord or an E form bar chord (root 6), you can see that the root notes are in the same positions as they are in the scale pattern. Because of this the scale pattern shown above can be described as the E form of the scale. It is also commonly called pattern 1.
Here is a solo in the key of C minor. All the notes in the solo come from the C minor pentatonic scale. It makes use of almost all of the techniques you have learnt. Once you can play the solo easily, try playing it along with the CD. You should also experiment with the licks within the solo and create variations on them to invent your own licks. It is also important to try out the licks in different keys. Make a habit of this with everything you learn.
