There are many different types of chords used in Blues, the most common being the dominant seventh chord (usually just called a seventh chord). Some typical 7th chords are shown in the following diagrams. You already know the D7 chord. Play the following example to hear the sound produced by other 7th chords.

This symbol is a quarter rest. It indicates one beat of silence. Do not play any note or chord where you see a rest. Small counting numbers are placed under rests.
In rhythm guitar playing rests are achieved by stopping all six strings sounding by placing the edge of the right hand over the strings (as shown in the photograph).
This example demonstrates the use of quarter rests along with quarter notes.
This is a half note. It has a value of two beats. There are two half notes in one bar of * time.
This is a half rest. It indicates two beats of silence.
