An eighth note (5) is worth half a beat.
Two eighth notes, which are usually joined by a bar 6 have the same value as a quarter note. Eighth notes are counted as such:
The example below uses the same pattern of notes as in Example 20, but transposed to the A string and played with eighth notes.
