Eighth Note Rest

Lesson 31/44 | Study Time: 5 Min
Eighth Note Rest

Eighth Note Rest

A staccato feel can be created in the previous lick by using an eighth note rest, j , on the 3rd beat. The eighth note rest indicates half a beat of silence, which, in the above example occurs on the 3rd beat. The rest is achieved by releasing pressure on the left hand.

In the two bar lick below the eighth note rest is used on the first count of the second bar.

Here is another two bar riff combining the 8th note rest and a tie.

*This chord is called an augmented chord. It is indicated with a + after the letter name.

All the notes in Lick 80 are played on the A string.
