Second String Notes

Lesson 2/41 | Study Time: 5 Min
Second String Notes

Second String Notes

B Note

To play the note B, pick the open 2nd string.

C Note

Play the C note with the first finger of your left hand just behind the first fret of the 2nd string.

D Note

Play the D note with the third finger of your left hand just behind the third fret of the 2nd string.

This example introduces the half note (or minim) 1 , which is worth two counts. In bar 8 the half notes are played on the first and third beats, as indicated by the count. This exercise is 8 bars long. Also note the small bar numbers written below the staff.

Troubleshooting

  • Make sure your guitar is in tune (see Appendix One).
  • Watch the music, not your fingers.
  • Concentrate on learning the notes, rather than memorising the song. To do this, you should play very slowly, naming each note as you play it.
  • Remember to use the correct fingering: first finger for first fret notes, and third finger for third fret notes.

2 String Blues introduces the whole note (or semibreve) ` , in bar 12, which is worth four counts. It is played on the first beat, and held for the remaining three, as indicated by the count.
