Course: Organ for Kids
How to Make a Sound

How to Make a Sound

Registrations

Turn the organ on with the power switch. Press the volume pedal about half way down with your right foot. Before you can play a note you must choose a registration. A registration is a setting on the organ that produces a certain sound. Practice making different sounds using different registrations. Your organ owner’s manual or your teacher will show you how to set up the registration.

When you play the songs in this book, you can use any registration you like. For some songs, you may wish to have a violin sound, for others you may prefer a trumpet sound, or a combination of several sounds. If you discover a registration that you really like, write it down so that you can remember it.

The Rhythm Section

The rhythm section is a group of controls on the organ that provides drumbeats to play along with. These drum rhythms can be changed to suit the kind of song you are playing. For example, for some songs you may want a rock and roll rhythm, for others you may want a waltz or a samba beat. Practice using the rhythm section when you know how to play some songs.
