Swinging Sixteenth Notes

Swinging Sixteenth Notes

Like eighth notes, it is possible to swing sixteenth notes by playing the first and third notes of the triplet grouping. Swung 16th rhythms are common in Funk, Hip-Hop and Rock which is influenced by these styles. Try swinging the two handed constant 16th hi-hat pattern you learned in lesson 7 and then play the following grooves.

This one uses a combination of eighths and swung 16ths on the hi-hats played by the right hand.

Here the hi-hat pattern uses only eighth notes and the extra sixteenths are played on the snare drum. Try swinging the sixteenths on some of the grooves you learned earlier in the book.
