The Note F (fa)

Lesson 2/26 | Study Time: 5 Min
The Note F (fa)

The Note F (fa)

The note F is written in the first space of the staff.

The sol-fa syllable for the note F is fa. Sing this song twice, using the syllables do, re, mi and fa the first time you go through it, and then sing the names of the notes (C, D, E and F) the second time through.

The Note G (so)

The note G is written on the second line of the staff.

The sol-fa syllable for the note G is so. Once again, sing the song twice through, using the sol-fa syllables the first time and the note names the second time.

This song is similar to "Merrily", which you learned in Lesson 3 . The difference is the G note (so) in the fourth bar. There is also an extra note in the sixth bar, which means you will either have to take a very quick breath after the word "lamb" or else wait till the end of the song to take a new breath.

The Common Time Signature

This symbol is called common time. It means exactly the same as * .

Here is another song which uses the notes C, D, E, F and G (do, re, mi, fa, so). It is a good idea to practice the song using sol-fa syllables as well as the lyrics. The sol-fa syllables are not written below the lyrics here, so you will need to remember that C is do, D is re, E is mi, F is fa, and G is so. Be sure you pronounce all the lyrics clearly as you sing.
