INTRODUCTION

Lesson 2/62 | Study Time: 5 Min
Course: Tin Whistle
INTRODUCTION

Progressive Tin Whistle will show you all you need to know about tin whistle playing and reading music. No previous musical knowledge or experience is necessary. The book covers a range of one and a half octaves, including sharps and flats and both major and minor keys.

All essential articulations such as basic tonguing, slurring and staccato playing are also covered. Music essentials such as time signatures, key signatures, note and rest values, repeats and first and second endings are also covered. Each new note and technique is introduced separately and all examples sound great and are fun to play.

On completion of the book, you will already be able to play many tunes and be making great sounds. You will also be ready to begin playing and improvising with other musicians and also to move on to a larger wind instrument such as flute, saxophone or clarinet.

There are also excellent instruction books for these instruments in the Progressive series. In the early stages of playing any musical instrument, it is helpful to have the guidance of an experienced teacher. It is recommended that you use a metronome every time you practice, in order to develop a good sense of timing right from the start.
