INTRODUCTION

Progressive Ukulele Method For Young Beginners: Books 1, 2 & 3 have been designed to introduce the younger student to the basics of playing the ukulele and reading music. Because of its size, the ukulele is the perfect instrument for children with small hands and fingers. It is also an excellent preparation for playing the guitar. Many students begin with the ukulele and later transfer to the guitar once their hands have grown a bit more.

To maximize the student’s enjoyment, the books use contemporary original material along with a repertoire of well known children’s songs. All have been carefully graded into an easy-to-follow, lesson-by-lesson format, which assumes no prior knowledge of music.

Book 1 contains very easy arrangements involving five notes on the treble staff. The student also learns the concept of melody and accompaniment, using the chords C, G7, and F. The book includes an introduction to the 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures, incorporating quarter, half, and whole notes and their equivalent rests.

Rhythm notation is used to make reading chords and rhythms easy. Both picking and strumming technique are taught with color photos of hand positions, along with audio and video demonstrations of everything learned.

The student is taught how to read music and introduced to basic terms such as bar lines, repeat signs, and lead-in notes. New pieces of information are highlighted by color boxes, and color illustrations are used throughout to stimulate and maintain the student’s interest.
