Bar Lines

Music is divided into measures or bars by bar lines. In the first song there are two measures of music. Each measure contains four quarter notes. At the end of the exercise, gently place your hands against the strings to stop them from sounding.

The Four Four Time Signature

These two numbers are called the four four time signature.

They are placed after the treble clef.

The * time signature tells you there are four beats in each measure. There are four quarter notes in a measure of * time.

This song contains four measures of quarter notes in * time. On the recording there are four drum beats to introduce songs in * time. Listen to the notes as you play, and make sure they sound clearly and evenly. Remember to count as you play the notes.
