It is necessary to be able to play chords with either hand. Here are some diagrams showing how the chords C, F and G can be played with the left hand. You may notice that the arrangement of the notes in the F and G chords is different to what you played with the right hand. The various possible arrangements of notes within chords are called either inversions or voicings. These will be discussed in detail later in the book. Just learn the shapes for now.
Practice changing between these chords until you are comfortable with them.
In the next example, chords are played in the left hand part and arpeggios are played in the right hand part. Notice the use of first and second endings here. (For more on first and second endings, see Progressive Keyboard Technique ).
