INTRODUCTION

Lesson 2/62 | Study Time: 5 Min
INTRODUCTION

The Progressive Guitar Method is a series of books designed to take the guitar student from beginner level through to professional standard. All books are carefully graded, lesson by lesson methods which assume no prior knowledge on the student’s behalf. Within the series all styles and techniques of guitar playing are covered, including reading music, playing chords, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, Classical guitar and fingerpicking.

Progressive Guitar Method: Classical assumes you have no prior knowledge of music or playing the guitar. This book will teach you all the essential techniques required to play Classical guitar. You will also learn some great Classical pieces, along with the notes on each of the six strings, and basic elements of music theory including time signatures, note values, sharps, flats, scales and key signatures.

Upon completion you will have a solid understanding of Classical guitar playing and be ready for more advanced studies. Progressive Complete Learn to Play Classical Guitar is recommended. In conjunction with this book you can use other books in the progressive series to learn a variety of musical styles such as Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, Metal and Funk.

The best and fastest way to learn is to use these books in conjunction with:

  • Buying sheet music of your favorite composers and learning to play their pieces.
  • Practicing and playing with other musicians. You will be surprised how good a basic duo or trio can sound even when playing easy music.
  • Learning by listening to your favorite recordings. Emulating great guitarists will teach you a lot about tone, technique, interpretation and music in general.

Also in the early stages it is helpful to have the guidance of an experienced teacher. This will also help you keep to a schedule and attain weekly goals.

It is also recommended that you practice everything with a metronome for at least part of your daily practice.
