Arpeggios are easy to play. You simply hold down the chord shape and pick the notes individually – either with a pick or your right hand fingers. They can be used in many different ways. You have already been playing arpeggios as fingerpicking patterns and as parts of melodies. Here are some more examples.
As mentioned previously, once you have the correct notes for a particular chord, they can be doubled or played in any order. This also applies to arpeggios. The following fingerpicking pattern uses the same chords as the previous example, but also contains higher and lower versions of the notes of each chord. You could also play this pattern with a pick.
Like scales, it is important to be able to play arpeggios in every key. The following example demonstrates major arpeggios played around the key cycle. There is no tablature here, but you already know all the notes needed to play these arpeggios.
