Progressive Electronic Keyboard Method, consisting of two instruction books and one supplementary songbook, has been designed to introduce you to the basics of playing the keyboard and reading music. To maximise our enjoyment and interest, the books contain an extensive repertoire of well-known songs. All the songs have been carefully graded into an easy-to-follow, lesson-by-Iesson format, which assumes no prior knowledge of music or the keyboard.
This book, Progressive Electronic Keyboard Method, Book 1 incorporates very easy arrangements involving one octave on the treble staff (played with the right hand), and eleven easy chords (played with the left hand). It introduces you to * and ^ time, and includes quarter, half, whole and dotted notes and their equivalent rests. The major scale is also introduced, along with sharps and flats. You are taught how to read music, and introduced to basic terms such as barlines, repeat signs and lead-in notes.
A set of keyboard stickers is provided for easy identification of keyboard letter-names.
A suggestion for a voice and/or rhythm selection is given with each song as a guide to help you get the best sound out of your keyboard. These selections are used on the recording.
Progressive Electronic Keyboard, Supplementary Songbook A, has been designed to be used in conjunction with Progressive Keyboard Method, Book 1. It contains more than 70 additional songs, which are cross-referenced to the lessons in Book 1.
Progressive Electronic Keyboard Method, Book 2 incorporates more challenging arrangements which extend the range to cover all the notes of the chromatic scale up to the A above the treble staff. Seven new chords are introduced, along with the % and cut time signatures and additional rhythms involving dotted eighth notes, sixteenth notes and triplets. Your ability to read music will be developed, as you are introduced to minor scales and keys, swing and syncopation.
By the time you finish Progressive Electronic Keyboard Method Book 1, you will also be ready to study specific styles of music and learn to play full chords and bass parts with the left hand. To help you do this, there are several other books in the Progressive series which you may wish to study. These include Progressive Rock Keyboard Method, Progressive Blues Keyboard Method, Progressive Funk and R&B Keyboard Method and Progressive Country Keyboard Method.
