12 Bar Blues in G

12 bar blues can be played in many different keys. The chord pattern sounds the same, but the melody of the song is sung higher or lower. To play a 12 bar blues in the key of G, you need to know a new chord, the D7 chord.

The D Seventh Chord (D7)

Type 1 Keyboards (eg Yamaha)

To play a D7 chord on this type of keyboard, press the D key shown on the diagram with the thumb of your left hand, together with the white key to its left using your second finger.

Type 2 Keyboards (eg Casio)

To play a D7 chord on this type of keyboard, press the D key shown on the diagram with the third finger of your left hand, together with the two white keys to its right, using your second finger and thumb.

Once you have pressed a chord key, the chord will continue to play automatically, so you will have time to move your fingers into a new position for the next chord, if necessary. For example, after you have touched the G7 chord keys in bar 8, release them immediately and move your hand into position to play the D7 chord in bar 9.
