PART SIX

Lesson 2/11 | Study Time: 5 Min
PART SIX

These additional songs, one of which utilizes the Dorian Scale, may be played after the material in Lesson 22 of the Progressive Harmonica Method has been covered. Some must be played quite rapidly in order to sound best, and are as difficult as any available harmonica selections, with the exception of the blues, rock, and jazz idioms, which are explored in the Progressive Blues Harmonica method.

This traditional Afro-American "Spiritual" is played in the so-called "third position", as explained in Progressive Blues Harmonica.

This lovely traditional tune was used as the melody for the song whose lyrics are widely known as "Danny Boy".

The two endings in the last line of this song indicate that if the song is to be repeated, the final note 4e is only held for one beat, whereas if the song is to end, the final note 4e is held for two beats.

This song can be played with swing timing on some of the notes, or not.

This lengthy song is composed of four distinct parts, of which the first and fourth are the same. When playing Parts One and Four, play the first three bars, then the fourth bar which is under the bracket labelled 1. Then repeat the first three bars, skip bar four, and play bar five, which is under the bracket labelled 2. Then continue on to Part Two. Part Three is to be repeated four times in total, as indicated by the three repeat signs.
