Progressive Recorder will show you all you need to know about recorder playing and reading music. No previous musical knowledge or experience is necessary. The book covers a range of one and a half octaves up to high G, including sharps and flats and both major and minor keys. All essential articulations such as basic tonguing, slurrng and staccato playing are also covered. Music essentials such as time signatures, key signatures, note and rest values, repeats and first and second endings are also covered. Each new note and technique is introduced separately and all examples sound great and are fun to play. The book also features a chart listing all fingerings for the recorder.
On completion of the book, you will already be able to play many tunes and be making great sounds. You will also be ready to begin playing with with other musicians and to move on to more advanced study of the recorder or to begin playing a larger wind instrument such as flute, saxophone or clarinet. There are also excallent instruction books for these instruments in the Progressive series. In the early stages of playing any musical instrument, it is helpful to have the guidance of an experienced teacher. It is also recommended that you use a metronome every time you practice, in order to develop a good sense of timing right from the start.
