In this Lesson, we analyse the different styles of famous drummers to try and get an insight into their playing. It’s very time consuming transcribing other drummers’ playing from records and tapes, because capturing the actual notes is one thing, but to capture the individual style and "feel" is usually impossible; However, it is an essential part of learning, as most of us are always influenced by someone else.
You may feel confident that these rhythms are most useful, particularly in "awkward" situations, when trying to come up with a beat to fit a certain "feel". These beats have been accumulated over many years out of necessity sometimes, but rest assured they are very useable.
Listen very closely to the cassette for various tempo changes, as this affects the rhythm dramatically and makes the beat even more versatile.
