Chord Progressions

The previous example is called a chord progression, meaning a series of chord changes. Chord progressions are common in all styles of music, and the more you know, the more songs you will be able to play. Here is another chord progression using the chords G and D7. While you are learning this progression, try to read slightly ahead of where you are playing so you don’t lose your place when moving from the end of the first line to the beginning of the second line. This is a good principle to use when reading any music.

Now try this traditional song which uses the chords G and D7. Keep your strumming strong and even. Once you are comfortable with it, try singing as you play.
