An essential technique in banjo playing is the use of right hand finger rolls, often just called rolls. There are many different rolls, but most are variations on three central ones – the forward roll, the reverse roll (backward roll) and the forward and reverse roll.
Once you are comfortable with a roll, the next step is to add some chords. The following progression is played with the reverse roll.
This one uses a simplified forward and reverse roll. The C and D chords are played with a first finger bar.
