The root 5 major seventh bar chord is based upon the open A major seventh (Amaj7) chord.

If this open shape is played as a bar chord on the third fret it becomes a Cmaj7 chord, a Dmaj7 if played on the fifth fret and an Emaj7 if played on the seventh fret. See the following diagrams.
