Root 6 Ninth Bar Chord

E9

The root 6 ninth bar chord is based upon the open E ninth (E9) chord. If this open shape is played as a bar chord on the third fret it becomes a G9 chord.

The root 6 ninth Jazz chord shape is also commonly used. Notice that no root note is needed in the alternative Jazz chord shape.
