Chords

Lesson 2/33 | Study Time: 5 Min
Chords

Chords

A chord is a group of notes which are played together. Chords are used to play along with the melody of a song. On electronic keyboards, it is possible to play a chord using only one finger.

Find the auto bass chord section (e.g., Yamaha keyboards), or Casio-chord section (e.g., Casio keyboards), or chord intelligence (e.g., Roland or Kawai keyboards) and select the single finger position, or on position.

This will allow you to play chords using only one or two fingers. On a piano, chords are played with three, four or sometimes more fingers. Chords are usually played with the left hand and the melody is played with the right. The first chord you will learn is C major, usually just called the C chord.

The C Major Chord

To play the C chord, touch the C key (as shown on the diagram) with the thumb of your left hand.

Any major chord can be played in this manner by simply pressing the key which has the same letter name as the chord.
