Using the Compact Disc

Lesson 3/76 | Study Time: 5 Min
Using the Compact Disc

Using the Compact Disc

This book comes with a compact disc that includes most of the examples in this book. While the book shows you the music on paper, the recording lets you hear how each example sounds.

If you already play an instrument, you can play the examples along with the recording. If you are just beginning, listen to the examples on the CD as you follow the music in the book. It is also useful to count out loud and clap the rhythms along with the recording while following the written music. If you are playing an instrument, practice the examples slowly at first, gradually increasing tempo. Once you are confident you can play an example evenly without stopping the beat, try playing along with the recording. You will hear a drum beat at the beginning of each example, to lead you into the example and to help you keep time. To play along with the CD your instrument must be in tune with it. The first track on the CD is a middle C note for you to tune to. If you don’t yet know what middle C is, don’t worry, as it is explained on page 22. Ask your teacher how to find middle C on your instrument, or consult your instruction book. All instruments are capable of playing this note. A small diagram of a compact disc with a number as shown below indicates a recorded example, as shown below.
