So far you have learned notes from a low F to a high G covering a range of just over 3 octaves. By learning the new notes shown on the following staff and keyboard you will be able to play over a range of 4 octaves, which covers most music.
Now try playing a C major scale over four octaves. The low C shown here is the lowest note on some electronic keyboards, but not on a piano or full length keyboard.
The following phrase has the symbol 8va above the music. This means it is played an octave higher than written. This symbol is often used for very high notes, as it makes them easier to read. When the notation returns to its normal pitch, the word loco is written above the music.
