Example 44 and 45 introduce the eighth note (6). Two eighth notes equal one quarter note. In country and other popular contemporary music eighth note rhythm patterns are very common because of their strong drive, especially when some of the notes are repeated.
The one bar riff in example 44 is in the key of C utilizing eighth notes throughout and being played further up the neck. Memorize the finger pattern so that you can transfer it onto the 12 bar progression below.
Example 46 uses a riff in the key of G combining quarter notes and eighth notes. Memorize this riff so it can be played in different positions on the fretboard for each chord.
Example 47 is the application of the previous riff to a 12 bar progression in G.
