A scale can be defined as a series of notes in alphabetical order, progressing from any one note to its octave, and based upon a given set pattern. The pattern upon which the major scale is based is that of tone - tone - semitone - tone - tone - tone - semitone. E.g., starting on the C note and following through this pattern gives the C major scale.
and in musical notation:
The major scale will always give the familiar sound of DO, RE, MI, FA, SO, LA, TI, DO.
It is important to remember that the major scale always uses the same pattern of tones and semitones, no matter what note is used as the tonic (starting note). Here are seven more major scales.
