A great tool for both acoustic and electric guitar is the Loop pedal, which is basically a mini recording machine controlled by your foot. Plugging your guitar into a loop pedal enables you to play a chord progression and then get the pedal to loop it (repeat it) while you play another part or improvise over what you have just recorded.
The chorus pedal is an ambient effect that fills out and "fattens" the sound of the guitar. It can also be used to create a feeling of space and movement within the sound. The pedal adds layers of the sound with light delays and pitch fluctuations added to it. It then mixes this version of the sound in with the original signal coming from the guitar. Chorus pedals are equally effective with both acoustic and electric guitars.
