Syncopation occurs when notes are played "off" the beat, i.e., when notes are not played on the numbered part of the count but on the "+" part of the count.
A tie can also be used to create a syncopated feel, by moving the accent (emphasis) off the beat.
The syncopation in the following songs is created by using both of these methods.
Although single coil pickups make a great sound, they can also produce unwanted noise known as hum. In the 1950’s, guitar makers discovered that if you put two single coil pickups together, the second one cancels the hum, as well as producing a fatter, warmer sound. Thus the humbucking pickup (Hum-bucker) was born. These pickups are traditionally associated with Gibson guitars such as the Les Paul and the 335.
