Key Signatures

Instead of writing a sharp sign before every F note on the staff, it is easier to write just one sharp sign after each clef. This means that all the F notes on the staff are played as F#, even though there is no sharp sign written before them. This is called a key signature.

Down in the Valley is in the key of G. In this song there is an F#note in bars 9, 13, 25 and 29 of the right hand part. There are also F# notes in every D7 chord in the left hand part. Use the second finger of your right hand to play the F#note in the melody line.
