A stoptime rag is a type of rag which focuses heavily on syncopation. The first beat of the bar in particular is often not played. Traditionally stoptime rags are played whilst "stamping" a foot on the first and third beat of the bar. This effect, indicated by the word stamp in the notation, is applied to the second section of The Ragtime Dance.
The final classic rag is quite different in style to the previous rags. Solace is played in a more classical style with a tango feel. The main difference to this rag is the bass line which does not keep a consistent beat as in the alternating thumb style used in all earlier rags. Tab readers should compare the tab notes with the music bass notes (stems pointing down) to know when to use the right hand thumb.
The symbol ? is a fermata sign, indicating a slight pause.
