Melodic Minor Scale

Melodic Minor Scale

The other important minor scale is the melodic minor. There are two versions of the melodic minor scale, one comes from Classical music and the other is commonly used in Jazz.

The traditional Classical version of the melodic minor ascends with the degrees 1, 2, b3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and descends as the natural minor or Aeolian mode. The Jazz melodic minor descends with exactly the same degrees as it ascends. It is this second version which is used here.
