The Shuffle Rhythm

The Shuffle Rhythm

A shuffle is an underlying rhythm based on a constant stream of swung eighth notes (usually played by the rhythm section). The shuffle rhythm came from the Blues and is used in many styles of music. Listen to the drums in this example to hear a typical shuffle rhythm.

When you are playing over a shuffle, it is common to mix triplets and swung eighth notes in the lead guitar part.
