Changing Between Shapes

Once you know how to play both root 6 and root 5 bar chords. the next step is learning how to combine them. Here are a couple of exercises to help you gain control of changing between the two major bar chords.

Now try this one featuring the two 7th chord shapes.

There are two basic patterns for playing a 12 barBlues using both root 6 and root 5 bar chords. The first one uses a root 6 shape as chord I and a root 5 shape for cords IV and V. Chords I and IV will be found at the same fret, chord V will be up two frets.

Here is the second pattern. This time Chord I will be root 5. Chord V will be root 6 at the same fret, while chord IV will be root 6 down two frets.
