LESSON TWENTY FIVE

Lesson 2/70 | Study Time: 5 Min
LESSON TWENTY FIVE

A Boogie is a particular type of shuffle which often makes use of rests and percussive strumming on the beat to help drive the rhythm along. Boogie songs often stay on one chord rather than following a 12 bar pattern. The artises best known for this styleare john Lee Hooker and ZZ Top. Example 57 is a basic boogie thythm.

Here's a slight variation, this time using percussive strums in place of the rests.

Now try this variation.

Here are two more variations, followed by an eight bar boogie solo.

To end this section, here is another well known 12 bar Blues riff in the key of A. To get the right sound on the double note in this riff it will be necessary to pull downwards with the first finger to bend the notes slightly. (For more on slight bends see Progressive Blues Lead Guitar Method.)
