Rolls

Rolls originated in military and traditional bands and are used to give the effect of a sustained note. Many of the rolls have an abbreviated form which is used to condense the written form of rolls on the staff and hence simplify reading. Many of the rolls which follow are written in abbreviated form and common notation form.

Finger pressure (from pinky, ring and middle fingers) extracts multiple bounces from one downstroke.
