INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

Progressive Fingerpicking Guitar Solos is a collection of great sounding fingerpicking solos covering all styles of contemporary fingerpicking guitar such as Blues, Ragtime, Country, Boogie and Classical. Also included is an open tuning fingerpicking solo and an acoustic slide solo. Several appendices covering music theory for guitar appears at the end of the book.

It will be necessary to have a knowledge of fingerpicking before attempting the solos in this book (see Progressive Fingerpicking Guitar by Gary Turner and Brenton White and Progressive Fingerpicking Guitar Licks by Brett Duncan).

All solos are notated using standard music notation and "Easy Read" guitar tablature. A detailed explanation of this system and the technique symbols used is given on the following pages. At the beginning of each solo in this book, chord diagrams are given to illustrate exactly how each part of the solo must be fingered with the left hand.

It is important that after a while you begin to play the solos in this book with some variations of your own. You should combine the study of this book with constant experimentation and listening to other fingerpicking guitarists. All fingerpickers use the same basics but development of style is determined by how these basics are used.

I am sure you will find the solos in this book both interesting and challenging, expanding your repertoire, knowledge and technique of contemporary fingerpicking guitar.

Good luck and have fun,

Brett Duncan
