The Staff
These five lines are called the staff or stave. The lines are numbered from the bottom up as shown. Count them.
Music notes are written on the lines of the staff and also in the four spaces between the lines. Like the lines, the spaces are also numbered from the bottom up.
A good way to remember the lines and spaces of the staff is to think of your hand. Including your thumb, you have five fingers and in between each of them is a space.
